It might have been garbage time to all in attendance — but not to this man.

Ivan Barbashev capped off a dominant St. Louis thrashing of the Senators in Ottawa with his first NHL goal to make the score 6-0, which is how it would end up.

That the goal resulted from an egregious giveaway behind the goal by Ottawa captain Erik Karlsson couldn’t have gone down too well among those remaining at the Canadian Tire Centre, but Barbashev lifted this gift horse right into the goal’s mouth. First came a little toe drag to improve his angle, then a flip over Senator goalie Andrew Hammond and the celebration was on.

The four other Blues skaters quickly closed on him for a spirited smile-fest, but the bench gave him a few noogies and a facewash on his skate past. The first goal of Barbashev’s career came in his sixth game.

2/7/2017 vs. Senators.
